The ways the the media was sold 40 or two years ago has changed a lot because of the changing technology means that the trends for watching and obtaining media are changing such as streaming services are becoming more widespread and popular replacing traditional methods of media watching and streaming. Streaming in itself is relevantly new idea and it is a lot easier to watch programs tat can be streamed or dowloaded because you do not need a constant connection to watch the programs also it is not a static device anymore you can take the device to stream or download products with you increasing the range and the list of places you can watch your programme. e.g on a plane or train or long journey. KTA 3 Traditional and virtual marketing

 John Wick Task 1.

Keanu Reeves social media

He promoted the film on his own Social media accounts by posting videos of behind the scenes as well as the official film posters

Billboard - this is a billboard advertising John Wick In Times Square New York. The Billboard is right in the tourist centre of the city meaning that a lot of more people will see the advert.

Social media advert - this advert was on Instagram.

Magazine Advert for the film - the Empire magazine is based at a younger audience.

Film Trailer, the film trailer was shown worldwide in cinemas and on TV and social media streaming platforms e.g. Instagram and YouTube.

Task 1. The billboard and the magazine are both traditional methods of advertising (older people). These are well used methods of advertising that are guaranteed to work successfully. They are the foundation of most main advertising campaigns and they appeal to almost every age group. The viral marketing (younger people) methods uses social media and film trailers. These are less reliable but they are cheaper methods meaning that more companies can get their products out there for their target audience to see. Together they appeal to every audience.

Task 2.

Task 3.

Below-the-line advertising is an advertising strategy where products are promoted in media other than mainstream methods of advertising.

A Costco 4 for 2 deal (advertised on email) was effective. The target audience e.g. my dad looked at the deal but did not buy the product. The advertising was successful because he looked at the product and it stayed in his mind. The idea of the advert was not necessarily to get him to buy the product but to remember that costco does good deals.

LO2 traditional and virtual advertising

Traditional methods -THINK BY SECTOR. Radio, Billboards, TV, newspaper and magazines and posters. Before Web 2.0. Dominated by conglomerates. The traditional ways have a mass audience. A great way to make lots of money form the media product. A independent company would find this very expensive to do on a national level. Local radio Local TV local billboards. The only way and independent company can advertise traditionally to a mass audience is through a joint venture e.g. a conglomerate.

When does advertising happen in vertical integration - ie production distribution and exchange. In between production and distribution.

Digital methods/viral marketing THINK WHAT YOU SEE. Social Media Advertising online. Its is cheaper than traditional methods it is also quicker in reaching an audience, Easily target a specific audience through following accounts. Benefits everyone especially independent company don't need subsidiaries to produce and distribute.

Impact technological convergence Web 2.0 Blackbox devices digital natives are brought up with this converge different technology a multifunctional device e.g a phone olden days to have to buy physical objects while nowadays they are all converged into one singular device access a range of media all in 1 place. It is INTERACTIVE. web own language @ and hashtag. Black Box theory what we are consuming media digital natives younger age groups mainly. Grew up with technology. Digital migrants are older audience and have too had to adapt towards technology.

Henry Jenkins (2006) we now live in a convergence culture synergy. Synergy cross promotion on different platforms. A constistant House style font.

Above the line (mass media/ audience)  v below the line advertising (personalised/niche/demographic). This is traditional methods aiming to the masses. Targeting everybody. put in on a particular media channel targeting specific audiences.
